The Falcon CLE 325 is the smallest multifunctional monocular with an integrated new 17μm thermal imager from InfiRay. The combination of 50Hz refresh rate imaging and the latest 384 x 288 bolometer matrix with NETD thermal sensitivity ≤40mK and 2x baseline magnification results in a very clear image on the device’s display.
The image processing process called Matrix III and the ability to manually focus the lens with a focal length of F/1.0 makes the resulting image unique in its class.
The fixed optical magnification of 2x combined with the lens size of 25 mm diameter / F 1.0 provides the observer with a very wide angle of view of 14.9° x 11.2°. The optical system used is focused from 1 meter to infinity, which means that regardless of the distance we have a constant image with high detail. In addition, in order to increase the capabilities of the optical system, a digital zoom with 2x and 4x incremental steps has been used, so we get an 8x image at maximum zoom.
The color AMOLED display with a resolution of 1024 x 768 can generate an excellent image created on a bolometer matrix in different polarization modes, and this translates into 4 color palettes displayed depending on the selected mode. We can select the following display modes: “White-Hot” (which means white is the hottest), “Black-Hot” (which means black is the hottest), “Red-Hot” (which means red is the hottest) and “Color” (which means that the color palette is generated, with red being the hottest object).
Falcon CLE325 thermal imager is a multifunctional device and one of its capabilities is the viewfinder mode, it provides for the generation of 7 types of aiming marks in four color variants: black, white, red, green. The device’s software gives us the possibility to illuminate the aiming marks at 7 levels of illumination intensity. A very important feature is also the ability to calibrate the aiming crosshairs, we can carry it out at 3 different distances 100, 200, 300 meters, to choose from depending on the preferences of the shooter.
An additional advantage of this device is its large number of functions making the “user’s life” easier, and so we have on board; a digital compass, inclinometer (a protractor especially useful when shooting in the mountains), we also have a media recorder with 64 GB memory giving the ability to store 40 hours of video or 1600 photos, there is also the possibility to playback files by connecting the output to an external monitor or viewing files on the device. Wireless communication in the form of Wi-Fi for mobile use and connections to applications has not been forgotten either.
Falcon CLE325 is supplied by the manufacturer with a mounting system that fits on the Picatinny rail Mil-Std 1913 / STANAG 4694. The height to the optical axis of the device when mounted is about 1.93 inches and thus one that fits the height of most scopes and Co-Witness magnifiers used on rails of the Picatinny standard.
The special design of the mount, which absorbs part of the energy generated by the recoil of the weapon after firing, and the protection of the internal components of the sight, make it resistant even to overloads of 1000 g/m2. This corresponds roughly to the use on a weapon in cal. 300 WinMag / 7mm RemMag, i.e. one that generates about 5000 J at the discharge of the barrel.
The device is designed and manufactured to IP67 standard, which guarantees water resistance and resistance to adverse weather conditions such as fog, rain, snowfall and heavy dust. Large temperature fluctuations from -40 to +50 degrees Celsius do not significantly affect the performance of this device, but may affect the life of the batteries themselves. Therefore, for the sake of availability, the manufacturer has adapted the power system to standard cells found on the market : type 18650 or 18700 (depending on which type of battery cap we use). In addition, in order to save energy, there is a timer that switches off the device after 45 minutes in idle state. We can, of course, temporarily extinguish the display with a short click of the power button while the device is in use.
