In the FAST FAL19 device, thermal signatures of observed objects are captured using a built-in 19-mm germanium objective lens and then processed using a thermal imaging matrix at a frequency of 50 Hz.
Using a special algorithm, an image is created that is projected directly onto the transparent viewfinder window in two colors: hot green and hot black.
FAST FAL19 offers three different image display modes: full thermal, contour and selective backlight. The observed image can be adjusted in the range of 10 levels of backlight and contrast, which allows for adjustment to user preferences or to the prevailing external lighting conditions. All thermal imaging modes are available using a single button on the front panel, which is located on the user’s side, which significantly improves the comfort of using the sight. All “menu” functions are available using a single knob located on the left side of the device.
The specific design of this thermal imager, which forced the designers to use a non-linear method of image projection (holographic), caused a large discrepancy in the path of obtaining a thermal image and the path of aiming (aiming window placed above). Such a discrepancy always causes the occurrence of parallax at a short distance from 0 to even 10 m. In the case of our device, parallax does not occur from 5 m to infinity.
In thermal imaging mode, the device generates an Eotech type reticle (ring and dot) whose brightness and color can be adjusted in the range of 6 levels, with 3 levels of green light and 3 levels of black light available. Thanks to the possibility of displaying a red or green dot using an additional diode, we can use the sight as a regular collimator when we do not need the thermal imaging function.
The sight is powered by two quick-change CR123A batteries and can be additionally connected to an external 5 V power source via the USB-C port.
As standard, the sight is equipped with a mounting system whose design has been specially adapted to an overload of 1200g/0.3ms, which is compatible with the Picatinny 1913 Milspec rail type.
