Is night vision legal in Poland?

- Hunting – subject to the provisions of the hunting law.
⚠️ The exception is mounting on firearms – according to the Law on Weapons and Ammunition, some night vision devices or accessories for them (such as scope caps) can be considered optoelectronic sights, the use of which in hunting requires appropriate permits or is restricted.
What does the Polish law say about night vision?

In Poland, the use of night vision is allowed under certain conditions, but it is forbidden to hunt with night vision sights, which allow the firing of a firearm with the support of night vision.
Article 42aa (1) (4) The law clearly states that:
„It is forbidden to use night vision devices during hunting if they are used for targeting with firearms.”
Digital and analog night vision – what is allowed?
There are two main types of night vision on the market:
- Analog night vision – traditional devices with a residual light transducer (e.g., generation 1, 2, 3)
- Digital night vision – modern solutions using digital matrices, often with additional features (recording, IR, remote viewing)
Both types are legal to own and use, as long as they are not mounted on the weapon as a sight or target cap while hunting.
