The Falcon CLE625 is the smallest 4-in-1 multifunction monocular with an integrated new 12μm thermal imager from InfiRay. The combination of a 50Hz image refresh rate and the latest 640 x 512 bolometer matrix with NETD thermal sensitivity ≤35 mK results in a very clear image on the device’s display.
The image processing process called Matrix III and the ability to manually focus the lens with a focal length of F/1.0 make the resulting image unique in this class of devices.
The fixed optical magnification of 1x (mainly required in the cap and headlamp mode) combined with the lens size of 25mm / F 1.0 provides the observer with an exceptionally wide viewing angle of 17.2° x 13.7°. The optical system used is focused from 1 meter to infinity, which means that regardless of the distance, we have a constant image with high detail. In addition, in order to increase the capabilities of the optical system (especially in viewfinder mode and observation mode), there is a digital zoom with 2x and 4x increments, which make the enlarged image more detailed.
The color AMOLED display with a resolution of 1024 x 768 can generate an excellent image created on a bolometer matrix in different polarization modes, and this translates into 4 color palettes displayed depending on the selected mode. We can choose the following display modes: “White-Hot” (which means white is the hottest), “Black-Hot” (which means black is the hottest), “Red-Hot” (which means red is the hottest), and “Color” (which means that the image is generated in the color palette, with the red object being the hottest).
The Falcon CLE625 thermal imager is a multifunctional device, and one of its capabilities is the viewfinder mode, which provides for the generation of 7 types of aiming marks in four color variants: black, white, red, and green, and the possibility to illuminate these marks at 7 levels of intensity. A very important feature is also the ability to calibrate the target crosshairs at three different distances of 100, 200, and 300 meters to choose from depending on the shooter’s preference.
An additional advantage of this device is its large number of functions, making the “user’s life” easier, and so we have on board; a digital compass, inclinometer (a protractor especially useful when shooting in the mountains), we also have a media recorder with 64 GB memory, giving the ability to store 40 hours of video or 1600 photos, there is also the possibility to playback files by connecting the output to an external monitor or viewing files on the device. Wireless communication in the form of Wi-Fi for mobile applications and connections to applications has not been forgotten either.
The Falcon CLE625 is supplied by the manufacturer with a mounting system that fits a Picatinny Mil-Std 1913 / STANAG 4694 rail. The height to the optical axis of the device when mounted is about 1.93 inches, which is the height that fits the height of most scopes and Co-Witness magnifiers used on Picatinny standard rails.
The special design of the mount, which absorbs part of the energy generated by the weapon’s recoil after firing, and the protection of the sight’s internal components, make it resistant even to overloads of 1000 g/m2. This corresponds roughly to the use on a weapon in cal. 300 WinMag/7mm RemMag, that is one that generates about 5000 J at the discharge of the barrel.
The IP67 standard, which ensures water resistance and resistance to adverse weather conditions like fog, rain, snowfall, and heavy dust, guides the design and manufacturing of the device. Large temperature fluctuations from -40 to +50 degrees Celsius do not significantly affect the performance of this device but may affect the life of the batteries themselves. Therefore, for the sake of availability, the manufacturer has adapted the power system to standard cells found on the market : type 18650 or 18700 (depending on which type of battery cap we use). Additionally, to conserve energy, the device incorporates a timer that shuts off after 45 minutes of inactivity. We can, of course, temporarily extinguish the display with a short click of the power button while the device is in use.
